THE ART CENTER RENOVATION PROJECT The Brownwood Art Association was organized in 1927 and continues today stronger than ever. There are many talented artists as well as patrons who support our efforts and the art community as a whole. The Art Association hosts exhibits, workshops, and demonstrations from visiting artists, and hosts classes throughout the year promoting art in this community and beyond. In addition we sponsor children’s art play days and award a $1000 scholarship to a senior from one on the countywide schools. In 2005 in honor her grandmother Pearl Stallings, Nancy Lee donated the building at the corner of Fisk and Lee in downtown Brownwood to the Brownwood Art Association. This gave us a permanent home and the opportunity to develop a first- class facility for a gallery and demonstrations free to the public. During the last several years, the association has held many fundraisers and used that money to upgrade the heating and cooling, replace the roof, strengthen the building’s exterior, add new electrical wiring, and add a ADA restroom. This has been Phase I. Phase II involves renovating the inside of the building. Our plan is to install new wood floors; raise the ceiling in the gallery room; upgrade walls to enhance artwork being showcased; upgrade the kitchen area; rework the workroom, kitchen & storage areas to create classrooms; add gallery lighting and new lighting throughout the building; and add signage to the outside of the building. Our vision includes national exhibits (encouraging Brownwood tourism), space to house our growing collection of heritage art, and pleasant spaces for small receptions and meetings surrounded by beautiful fine art. As you can see the projects are many and costly. On behalf of the Brownwood Art Association and the community we are requesting your help. This is the first stage of a major campaign to raise funds to complete these projects. Please partner with us in making this dream a reality. There are options for your donations: a one-time contribution, monthly pledges, perhaps donations of materials (wood flooring, paint, lighting, ceiling tiles, etc.). All would be greatly appreciated. "ART in YOUR ATTIC" The Art in Your Attic project marks the beginning of the Art Center's renovation campaign. We hope that the works donated to this event will generate both awareness and interest in the larger We are motivated by the belief that the fine arts bring a depth and breadth to a community unlike any other. When our building is complete, exhibitors both accomplished and novice from across the state will have a pleasing venue in which to display their artwork. The building will be available for certain small receptions and meetings, surrounded by the works of local artists.
